Ahhh, the Wiener Run! Definitely a fan favorite to many of The Striders. To those of you who have never run this hidden gem, you don’t know what you are missing. The 10K starts in the cute community of Asbury Grove, heads out to Bradley Palmer State Park, goes through the park and returns to Asbury Grove.
This year 25 participants (10 Striders) lined up for the 6:30 start. We were all recalling a previous year where the weather did not cooperate by dumping heavy rains and hail on us. Haha, little did we know around mile 1 we would be in for some of the same. Raindrops started as we were entering Bradley Palmer, then the skies just opened up! The trees provided some protection but it was not long before everyone was soaking wet.
Exiting the park with 3+ miles to go, we ran up some pretty good hills. The storm was passing directly overhead. Bolts of lightning and claps of thunder did not deter these hearty runners. The rain was gushing down the street easily consuming our shoes and ankles.
Soon the turnoff back into Asbury Grove was in sight. Awaiting us was a delicious dinner of burgers, chips, cole slaw, potato salad and watermelon. Even though we were soaked to the skin, a good time was had by all.

I loved this write-up. It gave me a “you are there” feeling and what a great attitude. I’m sure I’d be whining about the conditions. Nice job by all the runners and excellent job by the author of this piece, Mariellen.
