Recap by Mike Pelletier
Danvers, Massachusetts – May 1, 2016 – The weather was good: 50° and overcast, but no rain. The course for the second running of the Tapleyville Classic was shortened slightly from 7.1 miles to 7 miles and the start and finish was moved to within a block or two of the Osborne Tavern on Hobart Street.
The new 7 mile distance resulted in a PR for me in my first ever 7-mile race. I suspect that it was a 7-mile PR for everyone else who ran the Tapleyville Classic.
Barely recovered from an outstanding 3:40:45 Boston Marathon only 13 days before, newly minted Master Kate Gage raced to victory in the Female Masters category. Kate’s 52:21 was good for 5th Woman Overall and 25th finisher in the Tapleyville Classic.
Mike Pelletier for the second year in a row faced competition in the Men 70+ category and, for the second year in row, brought home the gold.
Deb Jackson, a sprinter by training, moved up in distance to 7 miles and bested three other women to earn bronze.
Finishing just out of the medals were Master Rosie Kyes (13 days after running the Boston Marathon) and Veteran Tom McMahon (7 days after competing in the National Masters 10K Championship).
