Running along and around the Gloucester coast is just a joy. The Lone Gull 10K starts atop that sucker hill on Nautilus Ave. that begins the Backshore Race, and it’s a treat to know it’s already behind you when you start. And that you’re running down it to the finish once you scale its backside on the return. On a cool day, great for running, many, many folks toed the line and gave this USATF race their best effort. Everyone knew it would draw an elite field, and it certainly did. The finishing times were crazy – sub 5’s for the men, 5:38’s for the women! All the age categories were won with outstanding times. But Striders still made a great showing. We were able to assemble a number of teams, too, and two won gold. There were some medals for some stellar individual performance, too. Here’s Mike’s compilation of the stats:

Jennifer O’Neil should have been included in the team scoring. I have appealed to USATF/NE to fix this omission.

Striders will dominate the volunteer ranks on Sunday 29 for another USATF race – OURS! We’ll join forces to see that the Nahant 30K maintains its reputation as a well-organized, well-run, well-supported race. See you there.

I’m so impressed with the results! Particularly with Sean Kay who powered past all of the high school and college runners for a very speedy 3rd place – amazing! Thanks to Krissy K for some fabulous photos – check ’em out in the photo gallery.
Anne Pelletier says
I think that Sean is only 11, which bodes well for him , when he does get to high school!
