Boston, MA, May 29, 2016 – By Linda Desjardins
Today 6 Striders participated in the Run to Remember in Boston. It was delightfully cool (too cool at the starting line!) for the 7 AM start. Five of our Boston Marathon women’s finishers took on the half marathon challenge, and one Strider signed up for the 5-miler.
Pre-race they shared their common complaints… most were not fully recovered from Boston yet. There were mentions of aches and pains, a badly upset tummy, a stress fractured ankle, no “real” motivation, no training, yadda yadda yadda. Nevertheless, everyone did herself proud. Our first half marathon finisher was Rosie Kyes who ran a spectacular 1:53:32 for an 8:40 pace. Next came Annajean McMahon, also under two hours in 1:58:58 for a speedy 9:05 pace. AJ was fourth of 39 in the 60-69 age group, missing third by 14 seconds. Linda Desjardins trotted in at 2:09, 12th of 39, at a 9:51 pace which she was pleased with on that gimpy ankle, and just a minute later at 2:10:07, Denise Young finished running a 9:56 pace. Thirteen seconds behind Denise was Cheryl Welsh in 2:10:2. Maureen Kelly, feeling quite under the weather, ran the five miler in a very respectable time of 56:35.
Editor’s Note: Considering the 6210 finishers in the Half Marathon and 2873 finishers in the 5-miler, the overall finishing places of the six Strider women were excellent.

Kudos to Corey Desmarais. I didn’t know he ran. Obviously he was way ahead of me and finished way before me, so I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to exclude him; I just didn’t know he ran. And obviously he did a hell of a job! WOW!
